The Cariology Group at LAOHA was strategically created to continue the work started with the Regional Consensus on Dental Caries, which outlined general and specific recommendations for caries control. The core team will organize activities to promote and disseminate these recommendations throughout the Latin American and Caribbean region.

This cariology group decided that some actions based on the general and specific recommendations of the Latin American and Caribbean Consensus on Dental Caries should be implemented in the region, and thus planned to develop 3 actions in the region in the next year: I) to know the policies of use of fluoride toothpaste and sugar reduction; II) discuss the implementation of a cariology curriculum for undergraduate courses in Spanish-speaking countries; III) discuss the implementation of an essential curriculum on dental caries in Brazilian undergraduate courses based on the current DCNs.

These 3 actions will be presented to the public in the Latin America and Caribbean region in October at a symposium that is being called CALL FOR ACTION (2nd edition). The idea is for educational institutions and dental associations to participate and become partners in these actions.
