1-year follow up

Dental caries is an important public health problem, driven by increased sugar consumption, biological, behavioral and psychosocial factors. It is a disease that strongly impacts people's quality of life.

Knowing the policies and guidelines on fluoride use, sugar consumption and health surveillance in Latin American and Caribbean countries is essential for interventions to be made with public policy makers, dental professionals and individuals committed to improving public health. in our region, both in the implementation of effective prevention measures and in the control and promotion of health.

For this, we count on your participation, answering this questionnaire about your country's policies on fluoride use, sugar consumption and oral health surveillance (specific questionnaire for organizations/institutions that can update this study with numbers and official references from your country). country).

1-year follow up

It is action seeks to contribute to the prevention and control of dental caries in Latin American and Caribbean countries (LACC), having as one of its goals to reach this Consensus by October 2022.

Its objective is to establish a consensus on the main and specific competences in cariology for the training of undergraduates, with the participation of Faculties/Programs of Dentistry and academic and professional institutions in Latin America.

The methodology to be used is based on the Delphi method, establishing an agreement when at least 80% vote in favor of each of the Core and Specific Competencies.

The consultation with Universities will be concluded in June and the final result will be prepared by the work team composed of a panel of experts from several regional and international institutions that are collaborating with the document that will be presented in October along with the other actions.

The present document of Consensus of Guidelines for Teaching Dental Caries in Undergraduate Dentistry Courses in Brazil is the result of the work of a mixed commission formed by representatives of ABENO (Brazilian Association of Dental Education), LAOHA (Latin American Association in Oral Health) and invited professors from different regions of Brazil.
